Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 1: The Governor's rule in the state has failed to touch the hegemonic structure, weaved by some influential professors in Higher Education where favourites have been enjoying prolonged stay in Srinagar city colleges for over a decade.
This is in total violation of the transfer policy of state government according to which an official has to stay for maximum of two years in city areas whereas three years in rural areas.
According to the data shared by officials in higher education department, in four degree colleges of Srinagar city there are more than two dozen professors, who have been overstaying for the last more than 7-8 years, due to their political influence or by reaping the benefits of transfer industry.
Some of these overstaying professors in Women College MA Road Srinagar for the last over 7 years are Professor Shagufta Yeshvi of Chemistry, Sameena Yeshvi of Zoology, Professor Muzaffar of Music , Professor Farooq of Mathematics, Professor Sabiha Durani of Psychology, Professor Nigat Amin of Botany, Professor Samina and Professor Raveena of Physics, Professor Nighat Nasreen and Mehnaz of Home Sciences, Professor Nasreen of Urdu, Professor Masood Malik of Functional English.
Some of the overstaying professors in Amar Singh College are Tariq Ashai of Chemistry, Mujahid Ahmed of Geology, PP Singh of History, Aaliya Chesti of Psychology, Razia of Geology, Gazal Geyas of English, Arshad Masoodi of Physics, Mashook Hussain of Kashmiri, Nighat Fatima of English and Hamidullah Wani.
Some overstaying professors in SP College Srinagar are Prof Meraj ud din of Geography, Prof Shah Jehan of Electronics, Prof Farooq Mir and BA Masoodi of Zoology.
Some other overstaying professors include Prof Satwant Singh of Punjabi, who has been serving in GDC Baramulla Boys since 1999 that is 19 years. Prof Arshad Yatoo and Prof Zubair Masoodi of BCA have been serving in GDC Baramulla Boys since 2012. Shakeel A Najar of Commerce and Prof Abdul Majeed Chalkoo of Botany have been serving at GDC Baramulla Boys since year 2012.
Prof Rehmat Ali of Zoology since 2013, Syed Murtaza Geelani of Education since 2009, Prof Zafar Shadad of Botany since 2010, Prof Rabia Rasool of Economics since 2008, Prof Asiya Zahoor of English since 2010and Prof Abdul Rashid Malik of Botany since year 2012 have been serving in GDC Baramulla Boys.
These cases are only tip of an iceberg as it is only the picture of four degree colleges of Srinagar but there are many other professors who have been overstaying in city colleges of Srinagar city only due to their political patronage or through other means.
"There were high hopes in Governor's tenure about streamlining of the department but so far neither advisor to Governor and not the department has started process to shift these influential professors to remote area colleges", official said, adding that transfer industry players have been assured by the officials in the Governor secretariat for not touching their close ones in higher education department.
Advisor to Governor Khurshid A Ganai, who holds the charge of Higher Education department as well as Commissioner Secretary to Higher Education department Sarita Chohan didn't pick up their phones for comments.
