PDP, NC 'yarana' at peak | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 1: Amid growing speculations that two arch rivals, NC and PDP, are about to stitch a common ground for an alliance in Jammu and Kashmir, the two parties have gone soft on each other, with spokesmen of both the camps preferring not to spit venom against each other at least for now. As one observes the statements of both the parties since last week, there is least criticism one could find against each other. One side is the NC that has been training all guns against the BJP, accusing the party of undermining the democratic exercise by holding ULB and Panchayat polls amid stiff opposition. On the other hand is the PDP that also has been seeking protection of Article 35-A and demanding reconciliatory measures to be taken for the greater interests of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. As NC used to target PDP with all might, accusing it of bartering the sentiments of the people by joining hands with the BJP, the PDP would normally hit back, accusing the party of doing the politics of deceit and deception since 1947. However, the truce between the two opponents seem to have come into force with even spokespersons and senior leaders not mentioning each other in the statements they issue and rather both in a unanimous way target the BJP and Congress for all bad that has been happening in the state of Jammu and Kashmir at present. "Such a development has taken place as the senior leaders of both the parties have in open invited each other to form a united front against the BJP and for the protection of Article 35-A. There is an atmosphere of equanimity taking place between the two parties and they have resolved not to turn anymore into nefarious miscreants," says one of the functionaries of NC. It is yet to be confirmed whether the two parties have entered into any agreement to not attack each other till they decide the future course of action or the leaders of both the camps have changed the direction of their guns for now. Meanwhile, the situation on ground is that both NC and PDP instead of becoming the rancorous anchorites are turning into best buddies. Only time will tell how long shall this bonhomie breathe amid the decades old animosity. Senior NC leader, Mian Altaf last week had stated that the suggestion of NC and PDP joining hands for a joint fight on Article 35-A and against rise of communal forces in Jammu and Kashmir made by PDP senior leader and former finance minister Altaf Bukhari is a welcome move. Prior to this, Altaf Bukhari had made an open offer, advocating that NC and PDP should join hands for greater common good of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Bukhari made a similar statement on September 12. In the interest of state and its people in particular, PDP will not shy away from fighting any nefarious designs jointly with NC and other regional political forces for safeguarding the special constitutional position of Jammu and Kashmir," Bukhari had stated. |
