Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 12: After three year lapse, the government has created various posts under Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) but the school education department has failed to start the recruitment process.
According to sources, in Jammu and Kashmir the scheme was launched by state government in 2009, supposed to impart quality education to upper primary schools exclusively to girls of the Educationally Backward Blocks (EBBs) of the state.
Through this scheme, the union government created hundreds of non- teaching posts for these schools including 33 posts of wardens, 44 posts of accountants, 27 posts of watchmen, 19 posts of peons, 15 posts of head cooks and 69 posts of assistant cooks.
The state government in previous year had claimed that state should expedite filling of the posts but till date the recruitment process yet to start reason best known to higher authority of School Education Department.
"Under this scheme, Central government has sanctioned 68 girl hostels to Jammu and Kashmir state but astoundingly till date not a single girls hostel has been made functional ", sources said, adding that the authorities in J&K have built not even 20 percent of the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) buildings, even though the schools were sanctioned eight years ago.
Sources further said that higher officers of education department claimed that construction of KGBV schools, hostels building would be completed on top priority but at ground their claims proves hoax.
The state government has consistently failed to identify land for the majority of the proposed school buildings; as a result some schools are running from the District Institutions of Education and Training (DIETs) others are currently operating from government schools and rented buildings despite sanctioned of several years back.
Due to lackadaisical approach of government as well as higher authority of school education department around 2400 seats for girl students are lying vacant in 97 KGBVs (Model-I) which are functional till date.
