PDP paying heavy price for appeasing Pak stooges, anti-nationals | Party ignored Jammu leaders during its tenure, sabotaged move to declare Maharaja's birthday as holiday | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 12: Vikramaditya Singh, elder son of former Sadre-e-Riyasat Dr Karan Singh and grandson of Maharaja Hari Singh, has formally joined Congress, nearly one year after quitting the Peoples Democratic Party. Singh had said goodbye to the PDP after the party despite heading Jammu and Kashmir government sabotaged the move to announce public holiday on late Maharaja's birthday. "The PDP used to claim that it wants to address the aspirations of the Jammu people but it even failed to concede to the request of the one of its prominent leaders in Jammu region," said an analyst. Vikramaditya's short stint with the PDP led to his becoming a member of the J&K Legislative Council, but he subsequently resigned in protest three years before completion of his term. The scion of Dogra dynasty ultimately decided to join Congress, the party his father has been associated with for more than five decades. A politician said that PDP's downfall in Jammu region had started long back. "There is no chance about this party getting revived again at least in Jammu region. The Jammu based leaders have realized this fact and they are slowly moving away from the PDP fold," he added. He claimed that when PDP was in power it ignored its own leaders in Jammu region and just concentrated on its Kashmir centric agenda. "The PDP is paying for the mistakes which were committed by the party leaders when they were in power." An observer said, "Had PDP agreed to declare Maharaja's birthday as a public holiday it would have proved its secular credentials but the party leaders preferred to keep separatists and Kashmir centric leaders happy." He said that it's not Vikramaditya Singh only who has said goodbye to PDP. "Many leaders in Jammu have snapped their ties with the party to avoid being labeled as the supporters of separatists and terrorists operating in the Valley," the observer added. A Kashmir watcher said that PDP during its three year rule did not pay any heed towards the genuine demands of the people of Jammu and treated them as "second grade" citizens. "Other factors which pushed Jammu based leaders away from the PDP were that the party did not include them in any of the decision making processes nor were any Jammu based leaders given any important posts in the party. The PDP leadership had turned the entire party into a family affair. Close relatives of the top party leaders used to call the shots and dictate terms to others," he added. Another analyst said that the agenda of the PDP and the separatists is same. "Jammu people are nationalists to the core and they will never support a party which has soft corner towards anti-nationals," he added. |
