Agencies Polling for the third phase of municipal elections in Jammu and Kashmir, which began on Saturday morning, witnessed high and low poll percentages till 2 pm.
The highest turnout of over 73 per cent was recorded in Uri, border township of Baramulla district in North Kashmir, and the lowest of 1.5 per cent in parts of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC).
The polling is going on for 26 of the 74 wards of SMC, 13 wards of Municipal Committee, Uri, and seven wards of Municipal Committee, Mattan, in Anantnag district.
Re-polling is also going on in one polling station of Ward No 23 for Municipal Council, Anantnag. Mattan recorded 2.7 per cent up to 2 pm, while the polling will continue till 4 pm. It has been going on peacefully across the region, while the separatist organisations have called for boycott of elections and a complete shutdown in the poll-bound areas. |
