Hectic lobbying on for Kathua MC chairman
Higher leadership likely to prefer independent than own councillors
10/25/2018 11:13:57 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 25: Hectic lobbying has been going on unabated for the post of chairman of Kathua Municipal Council, with the higher leadership of a party appearing to be in favour of making an independent councillor as chairman than its own councillors.
Sources informed Early Times that none of the party has got clear majority in Kathua MC elections with BJP having 8 seats, Congress 5 and independent 8. Out of the 8 independent winning candidates, one is a former chairman, his wife and two more winning candidates who had fought elections against the candidates of BJP.
Out of the remaining four independent candidates, two are close to a senior Congress leader, and nothing could be said about the remaining two independent candidates.
"The election results were declared on Saturday last, but the former chairman of the MC had visited Dr. Jitendra Singh in Jammu on the very next day. He was accompanied by a senior BJP leader from Kathua", sources said, adding that the former chairman had expressed his desire to join the party if he was made chairman of the council.
Sources further said that the former chairman recently visited the state president BJP Ravinder Raina in Jammu and again expressed the desire of joining the party on the condition of making him chairman.
"The higher command has almost agreed to make the former chairman once again a chairman of Kathua MC, but a final decision is yet to be made", sources said, adding that the local leaders of BJP including seniors were not in favour of giving post to an outsider.
A senior BJP leader has won the election of councillor in Kathua and he has been seen himself as most probable candidate for the post of chairman. "Another local politician, who has been seen as rival to the former minister of party from Kathua, is in talks with a Congress councillor", sources said, adding that if the Congress councillor would agree to join BJP, then it would be a shot in the arm of local BJP leader.
"If the Congress leader joins the BJP, then Kathua will be Congress-free and the leader would also galvanize support for BJP in coming future as the Congress leader has good support base in various wards of Kathua", sources said, adding that money has also been playing strong role in the election process.
