PM's Khelo India just an eye-wash in Kathua | | | Arun Trisal
Early Times Report KATHUA, Nov 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Khelo India' faces apathy of district administration Kathua as games are being organized without facilities and the same is affecting morale of the participants. District Youth services & Sports officers Kathua duly following the direction of Chairman of Khelo India (District level) DDC Kathua launched Khelo India competition under centrally sponsored scheme Sports for peace and development for eight blocks like Kathua, Barnoti, Hiranagar, Billawar, Bani, Basholi, Duggan and Malahar. The government allocated Rs 1814680/- total amount for the events including Rs 1177000/- for refreshment and Rs 637180 for Bus fare charges to & fro for participants in addition to total 96,000/- for expenses incurred on lime, stationery, tent, chairs & PA system for Oct 31st to 3rd Nov 2018, 8th of Nov and 10th of Nov (6 Days). Despite of having huge amount for the participants, sports events are being organized through sub-standard ways as no appropriate sports kits, sports equipment, leveling of ground or hygienic food is being provided to poor participants. The government allocated Rs 125/- per head for refreshment of the participants but food plates of just Rs 20/- is being served. Participants pay bus fare from their own pockets and those who do not proceed to next level has not been treated properly. Arjun Kumar and Anju Bala participants disclosed the apathy of district administration and alleged that sub-standard unhygienic food items. They added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a mission behind launching this scheme but nothing has been provided at ground level. Many members included in the events disclosed that games were being played without proper facilities and leveling of ground that could cause any consequence. Members disclosed that many participants were knocked out in first day but they were still mentioned in the documents to release funds on their behalf. They informed that Volleyball and Football nets were not up to the mark and timed out, no new sports article was purchased and games were being played at sub-standard ways. Few girl participants pointed out sanitation facilities available in the stadium. Many girls got fainted due to unavailability of water tank facilities on another day of inauguration. Participants sought sports kits, facilities and hygienic facilities for all six days. When contacted District Youth services & Sports Officer Ashok Kumar accepted shortcomings and informed that appropriate facilities would be provided soon. |
