In Rajouri hospital, doc refuses to treat patient during night hours | | | Bijay Charak
Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 1: A doctor posted at a Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Mougla area of Rajouri has been refusing to treat patients who visit the hospital late night. According to sources, to provide round the clock healthcare facilities in some hospitals of rural areas, the government had given special incentives to the doctors posted in these hospitals. "Such type of incentives are also given to the staff appointed at PHC Mougla, situated some 70 kilometres from district headquarter Rajouri", sources said. They said that on Wednesday night, a road accident victim was brought to the PHC Mougla for first aid treatment. "When the attendants enquired about doctor, they were told that he is sleeping in hospital quarter. The doctor opened the door only after it was knocked for around 10 minutes," said sources. They said the attendants requested the doctor to visit emergency immediately because their patient's condition was not good. But instead of visiting the emergency, the doctor asked whether it was right time to knock his door, said sources, adding that he refused to treat the patient. "The doctors' refusal to treat the patient led to heated argument between the doctor and the attendants. When the attendants said they will register a complaint against the doctor with the higher authorities, the doctor replied, 'I am not your servant call Modi or any other person, I don't care'," said sources, adding that without first-aid treatment, the patient was referred to district hospital Rajouri. Sources said on papers PHC Mougla is supposed to cater to thousands of people. "The hospital is supposed to provide 24x7 emergency services because area is far flung and miles away from district headquarter. The government should provide 24 hours emergency service including an appropriate management of injuries and accident, first aid, stabilization of the condition of the patient before referral, dog bite/snake bite/scorpion bite cases etc. But the condition of the PHC is pathetic; it is facing shortage of manpower and medicines," said sources. Director Health Services Jammu was not available for comment. |
