Jammu, Nov 22: The Health and Medical education Department has been accused of providing dialysis facilities at places where it is not needed. The places where patients suffer for want of the facility have been ignored, sources in the health department said. They added that in the beginning of 2018, government had directed department concerned to immediately set in motion the process of making operational the dialysis facilities in district hospitals of remote districts. During the announcement, the Minister also directed the higher officials of health department for deputing two doctors and technicians from each district to undergo technical training for handling the Dialysis machines in the district hospitals. "After lapse of six months minister announcement, the health department still provided such facilities in five districts, rest of other district still dependent on provisional hospitals of both divisions", sources said, adding that the needy patients were being forced to run from pillar to post to get dialysis done. Many have reported died due to availability of affordable treatment. Sources further said that the objective to provide free dialysis services to the poor people of state, government had launched Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme in 2016 and then, the government has identified ten districts but in later government decided to provide such facilities to all district hospitals. "The scheme assures provision of free dialysis for kidney disease at the district level, but the same is yet to take off in remote districts of both divisions of Jammu and Kashmir due to lackadaisical approach of higher authority", sources said, adding that the department had installed such type machine in districts where such type of facilities already available in medical colleges or other specialty hospitals. Instead of launch the scheme across state, the people belongs from remote areas still unutilize their benefits. At present they spend huge amount to visits both capitals cities of state for their treatment or checkups. As a result, the long queues of patients are still seen either waiting for their turn in existing dialysis unit at Super Specialty Hospital Jammu / Kashmir.
