Security forces being removed from bunkers, buildings in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 11: Despite desperate attacks by militants, the security forces are facing a tough time as they are being removed from various areas. For the last few months, it has been seen that militants have tried to show their presence. Even on Tuesday, they attacked security forces in south Kashmir's Pulwama district. Despite that, there seems no end to remove security forces from buildings and bunkers without considering their security. On Tuesday, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) demolished the oldest three CRPF bunkers at Amira Kadal in the heart of Srinagar city. The bunkers guarding Hanuman Mandir at Amira Kadal area of Srinagar city were erected in 1988 but were removed on Tuesday morning. An official of Srinagar Municipal Corporation said that the demolition drive was a regular routine for SMC. Mayor Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Junaid Azim Mattu said that all the three bunkers at the end of Amirakadal have been demolished and a park will be built there. "All three bunkers at the end of Amira Kadal Bridge (towards HSH Street) have been demolished and the land cleared. Will be developed as a Park by SMC now and maintained in coordination with the local Dastageer Sahab (RA) Shrine Auqaf Committee. Well done!" Mattu wrote on Twitter. Earlier , the government forced the security forces to vacate two buildings of the Shar-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura. The Border Security Forces had been in these two buildings since early 1990s. Following they were under occupation of CRPF and then Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) along with around 20 kanals of land. The forces had erected prefabricated barracks on a large piece of land around buildings. These buildings are stationed opposite emergency block of the SKIMS. "The security forces had occupied these buildings for the safety of people. But the government has been forcing the security personnel to remove from bunkers and buildings," the official said. Similarly, the government is also mulling to remove the security forces from Pari Mahal despite the area houses top functionaries including the Raj Bhawan. Parimahal, 'angels of abode' is a seven terraced garden located at the top of Zabarwan mountain range over-looking city of Srinagar and south-west of Dal Lake. It was built by Mughal Prince Dara Shikoh in the mid-1600s. However, over 400-year-old heritage site is in dilapidated condition and has been virtually abandoned by the authorities due to occupation by the forces. The police has informed the government that occupation of Parimahal by forces dates back to early nineties wherein the BSF platoon had been assigned the responsibility of protecting all dignitaries residing at Cheshmashahi including Governor JK. However, police as per the documents has told the government that a balanced view may be obtained or an alternate nearby location may be provided to the BSF platoon, "in case if any threat to the centrally protected site". Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, who also holds the additional charge of LAWDA VC as per the documents believes that security cover should continue for area domination, "yet the centrally monument having national importance like Pari Mahal cannot be mistreated devoid of upkeep". |
