Jammu, Dec 15: Seeking 33% reservation for women in assembly elections in conformity with the assurances doled out by various political parties, the Mahila Panthers led by Manju Singh, General Secretary JKNPP held a massive demonstration at Jammu today.
The women activists of the party who assembled in large number at Press Club accused various political parties of making false promises over the issue only to seek political benefits.
Reminding the ruling BJP of its 'Vision Document' released during 2014 Elections as also the election time speeches of its senior leaders, Manju Singh sought reservation of 33% seats for women in State assembly.
Urging upon the Governor to bring an ordinance in this regard, Singh said that various political parties had though given the slogans of women empowerment but none had dared to bring about appropriate legislation over the subject for reasons best known.
Addressing the gathering, Manju Singh said that assurances for delimitation and for ending regional bias were not only doled out by the central BJP leadership but the BJP's vision document released during Elections also categorically promised early delimitation of Assembly constituencies in J&K so as to ensure justice to Jammu region with 33 % seats reserved for women, five seats for displaced persons of PoJK out of 24 seats reserved for them in the state constitution and three seats for Kashmir migrants.
Kesar Parveen Advocate and Secretary JKNPP said that BJP failed to redeem its pre poll promises on the issue of women reservation and in initiating any steps in this regard.
Prominent among those who spoke on the occasion included Renu Singh, Kanta Kaith, Krishna Kumari, Jasvinder Kour, Geeta Devi, Raj Kumari, Babli Devi, Jyoti Bala, Amita Kumari, Sudesh Kumari besides others. |
