Jammu, Dec 15: The tall claims of the government about 'Digital literacy' have fallen flat as 70 percent government run schools in Jammu and Kashmir are still without electricity. "The PDP-BJP alliance as well as incumbent government has been focusing on administrative affairs of education department and a very little focus has been given to providing electricity or infrastructural development in Government schools", sources said . They further said that lack of electricity was a big impediment towards digital literacy as well because when there is no electricity in schools, the children will have no access to computers and other digital equipment. It may sound bizarre but true that majority of government schools of remote district like Rajouri, Doda, Ramban, Kishtwar, Reasi, Poonch and Kathua are un-electrified. "At a time when government is celebrating achievement of 100 percent electrification across country as per gover-nment's own figures, out of 1720 government schools in Rajouri district, 1484 (over 86 percent) don't have access to electricity, While only 200 of total 1250 government schools in Doda district have electricity", sources said, adding that the condition of Kishtwar, Ramban, Reasi district schools are similar. Recently, students of government schools in Kashmir division during exam used candle as there was no facility of electricity during examination though the department had collected huge amount in shape of examination fee. After missing the initial deadline of May 2017, the government on April 29th this year announced that electrification of all inhabited villages in India had been completed. The un-electrified schools of Jammu and Kashmir clearly indicate that announcement by government was merely a hollow claim. |
