Irrigation Deptt overlooks Nandpur areas, only canal lying dry since decade | | | Early Times Report
Samba, Dec 15: Prominent Social activist and Secretary Border Area, Dogra Swabiman Sanghtan, Sudarshan Choudhary, while visiting border belt of Nandpur area in District Samba, observed that the only canal which was providing water for irrigation purpose to the farmers of villages like Chimney Chak, Khour, Nandpur, Naraina and a lot of other localities is lying dry since over one decade. Due to dryness of this only source of irrigation, the farmers with their very meager land holding are unable to irrigate their land resulting into either no crops or only negligible agricultural yield. Indeed, this canal look more or less filled with garbage, waste and mud due to no de-silting ever carried out during the last one decade and wild growth all along. Poor farmers are in a fix since their small land holding does not allow them to go in for individual bore wells being an uneconomic option. People all over the places approached him to further draw the attention of the Governor so that their life long sufferings due to non availability of irrigational water is mitigated and their lot improve some bit. Sudarshan was surprised to see that this area is neglected no development seen. People claim that everyone visiting them have befooled them with false assurances. He has publicly urged the Governor to kindly look into this vital issue for needful. |
