In Srinagar male mortality ratio is double than females

SRINAGAR, Dec 15: In the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, the mortality rate of males is double than that of females.
As per the official figures of Srinagar Municipal Corporation, the male death ratio is more than double than that of females in the last five years.
As per the SMC figures, 17441 deaths were reported in the last five years, comprising 11975 male and 5466 female. As per the figures, the male death rate in the year 2014 reported by the SMC was 2229 where as death rate of females in the same year was 899 which is comparably less than the males.
Similarly in 2015, 2533 male deaths were reported against 1033 female deaths.
Likewise the male deaths reported in 2016 in Srinagar escalated to 2272 while female deaths reported in the same year came down to 1064. The following year was no exception. In 2017, the male deaths surged to 2600 where as the female deaths declined to a number of 1276.
This year, the number of male deaths reported is more than 2300 in comparison to female deaths which equals to 1194. The data shows that since 2014 the death ratio between male and female is 2:1.
Meanwhile, an official of SMC, said, "The number of deaths reported per year is according to the number of death certificates issued by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation."
He said, "We provide death certificates only to those who are registered with us. I am sure the number could be higher while the unreported goes un-noticed."
As per 2011 cencus, JK's total population has been recorded to be 1,25,48,926 persons consisting of 66,65,561 males and 58,83,365 females, indicating a share of 1.04 percent in total population at national level and decadal growth rate of 23.71 percent.
The state has recorded more literate population than ever before with total number of literates jumping to 7,245,053 with 4,370,604 males and 2,874449 females. "The percentage of literate persons is 68.74 compared to 55.5 percent recorded during 2001 Census."
However, there has been a drastic fall in the child sex ratio.
