BARAMULLA (Uri), Dec 22: Eight labourers died in a tragic landslide incident in Bansbada area in Rudraprayag district of Uttrakhand state on Friday afternoon, the bodies have been sent to Delhi and will be airlifted tomorrow towards their hometown, Governor grieved over the death of 8 labourers and announced ex-gratia relief of Rs 2 lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rudraprayag district, Prahlad Meena (IPS) while talking to Early Times over the phone said that, "the tragic incident happened on Friday afternoon, in which seven Kashmir labourers died and three others injured after they came under a mudslide as they were working in Allwadi Road project in Banswara. Soon after this tragic incident, rescue work was immediately started without any delay by the police, SDRF and locals adding that the injured were moved to the nearby hospitals for fir aid treatment, the SSP said. At the filing of this story, District Control Room officials of Rudraprayag told ET that, the bodies of seven labourers have been sent by an ambulance to Jammu, and most probably they might have reached Ambala station this time, and tomorrow they will be airlifted to their hometown. The official said that, the death toll has reached to 8, and the eighth dead body will be sent to his hometown on Sunday, the probe into the incident has been ordered. In this regard, a case has been registered in the concerned police station U/S of 304-A 336, 337 and 338, investigation have been take up. The police had identified the deceased as Bilal (20) resident of Uri, Sibbeer (30) of Bagna Baramulla, Abdul Rashid (60) of Uri, Imtiaz Ahmad (26) of Handlanga Baramulla, Mushtaq Ahmad (30) of Uri, J Hamid Sheikh (30) of Uri, and Gulzar (20) of Uri. While as the injured were identified as Altaf Hajam 55, S/O Ghulam Kadar Hassan, R/O Handlanga, Abbas 20 S/O Subhan Shekhgram Handlanga, Altaf Hussain 45 R/O Mothal, Uri of Baramulla district. However local sources in Uri said that it was a group around of 10-15 persons that had gone to Uttrakhand state for labour work, they were working with some construction company, the incident happened when they were busy in removing some portion of the mountain following which a large portion caved-in, as a result of which all of them got buried. Sub Divisional Magistrate Uri Baser-ul-Haq Chowdery said that hopefully the bodies of the deceased are expected to be airlifted to Srinagar till Sunday morning. Meanwhile Governor S P Malik has expressed profound grief and deep anguish over the tragic death of Kashmiri labourers in a landslide in Char Dham area of Uttarakhand. Extending his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, Governor has announced ex-gratia relief of Rs 2 lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased. |
