Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 25: The Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) of Jammu and Kashmir, apropos to various views published in a section of press, held a meeting today at Party Office Bhalla Enclave, Channi Himmat, Jammu under the Chairmanship of National Council & Founder Member S. Deep Singh The meeting was held to discuss the bogey of Autonomy being raised by National Conference Pres-ident Dr. Farooq Abdullah. AAP member expressed views on the subject said that neither National Conference nor Congress, who ruled the State for about 60 years, never initiated any step to empower the public representatives by assuring decentralization of powers in a democratic manner up to Gram Sabha and Panchayat level. He added that this is obvious because they never strengthened the Panchayati Raj Act and instead made the Panchayati Raj Institutions tooth less by making several amendments in the main Act and every effort was made to keep the powers confined to the corridors of civil Secretariat. "What is the harm if any person whose name is entered in any Panchayat of respective Block be allowed to nominate himself for the office of Chair Person of said Block? It directly smacks the ill designs of the Government to put a stumbling Block before the democratic and constitutional institutions. We urge upon the Governor to look deep into this matter and set the matter right using his constitutional powers", he added. He further said that the BJP has miserably failed in fulfilling the promises made to the people in 2014 Assembly elections be it Art.370, Artificial lake, de-limitation Commission, citizen rights to refugees of 1947,1965 & 1971 wars, allotment of 5 Marla plots to LOC residents, etc. We are strongly in favor of decentralization of powers into the hands of public representatives in democratic manners through the mechanism of constitutionally guaranteed system of governance on the pattern of Leh & Kurgil, the release said and added that we further demand that snow bound, remote, hilly, backward and un-accessible areas of Chenab Valley & Pir Panjal. Prominent among those who participated in the meeting included were Ram Singh Chauhan, Farooq Ahmed Banday, Kuldeep Kumar Rao, Parmveer Singh, Mehraj Malik, Mehar Singh and Amit Langer. |
