3 months on, STP at GMC&H defunct | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 28: Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu has not been working since September this year. Sources informed Early Times apart from the patients and the staff of GMCH Jammu the residents of adjoining areas have raised this issue on many occasions but the administration has not acted. "A huge amount (around one crore) was spent for STP by Mechanical Division of GMCH Jammu. But unfortunately, the huge investment is lying defunct for past three months, despite repeated complaints from the stakeholders", said a senior doctor, whishing not to be named. He said that apart from creating unhygienic conditions in the premises, the untreated waste has lead to foul smell spreading in the entire area. "Since the day STP has stopped working people living in adjoining areas, have met senior officers, including MS and the incharge Mechanical Division of GMCH Jammu, but their pleas to get the STP repaired have fallen flat on deaf ears", he said and added that the toxic and infectious material coming from the hospital is passed through defunct STP and its just a "mere eyewash." |
