Five members die in Bemina due to suffocation | Tragedy strikes Tanghdar family | | Jehangir Rashid

SRINAGAR, Jan 5: Tragedy struck a family of Tanghdar after five members of the family were found dead early in the morning at their rented accommodation in the Bemina area of Srinagar. Reports said that five persons including two minors from Tanghdar area of Kupwara district who were residing in Srinagar as tenants were on Saturday morning found dead probably due to suffocation. The residents and the police believe that the death to the five Tanghdar residents has caused due to suffocation by use of gas heaters. A pall of gloom descended on the entire Bemina locality after the news about the death of five persons spread in the area. People converged at the house where the family was putting up as tenants and information was passed on to the nearby police post at Bemina. The bodies are expected to be sent to Tangdhar by a sortie on Sunday. A police spokesman said that today in the morning, information was received by Police Post Bemina that five persons who were living as tenants at Mansoor Colony, Bemina are lying unconscious in their rented room. "Subsequently, a police team from Police Post Bemina rushed to the spot and shifted all the five persons to JVC Hospital for treatment where doctors declared them brought dead. They were identified as Khursheed Ahmad, 45 years old son of Abdul Rashid, his wife Gulshan Jan 45 years old, his two sons Faizan Ahmad 08 years old and Furkan Ahmad 05 years old, and his mother Rashmea Jan 65 years old, all residents of Batpora Tanghdar," said the police spokesman. Reportedly, the family had taken room on rent last week as one of the family members was getting treated at JVC Hospital. After completion of all medico legal formalities, the bodies are being shifted to their native village. Police has initiated a probe to ascertain the cause of their death. In the meantime, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah here said that the five bodies would be sent to the native area on Sunday provided the weather conditions are good. The DC said that the bodies could not be sent today since the weather was inclement in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir valley. It would be in place to mention here that Chief Secretary B V R Subrahmanyam had issued instructions to the divisional administration of Kashmir to make arrangements for sending the bodies to the Tanghdar area. Tanghdar is one of the far off areas of border district of Kupwara in North Kashmir. |
