Desperate PDP first to start election campaign | | | Early Times Report srinagar, Jan 5: Desperate to gain the losing ground, PDP seems to be the first party to start the election campaign from Monday following the death anniversary of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. A PDP source said that Mehbooba Mufti visiting the militant families is part of her election campaign. "The PDP has been confined to few leaders. Mehbooba is trying to regain her ground in south Kashmir," the PDP source said. The decision related to visiting to militant families was recently taken by the PDP leadership where Abdul Rehman Veeri was also present. "Mehbooba Mufti is already frustrated over leaving of several party leaders and is trying to show sympathies by visiting militant for the Jamiat Islami voters," the source said. He said that PDP would announce the election campaign at the mausoleum of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on January 7. "We will observe the death anniversary of Mufiti Mohammad Sayeed on January 7 after which election campaigning will be started. We have discussed recently how to hold the election campaigning," he said. He however said that poll-campaigning would also be dependent upon the security situation in Kashmir. National Conference, General Secretary, Ali Mohammad Sagar said that his party has begun the political activities for the polls. "We are waiting for the Election Commission of India whether both polls will be held together," he said. Sagar however said that National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah has decided that party would fight on its own. The Congress and BJP have decided to start the election campaign from Jammu after January 15. The Election Commission of India is likely to club the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir, which may be held in April as a process has been initiated for both the polls. The district election officers have submitted a proposal of appointment of returning and assistant returning officers to the poll body for the Lok Sabha and Assembly polls. A police official said that political parties have been advised to hold the rallies at the designated places. "The political rallies will be allowed at secured places. We have to make adequate security arrangement before any election rally is held," the official said. The state assembly was dissolved by Governor Satya Pal Malik on November 21 citing the "impossibility of forming a stable government by the coming together of political parties with opposing political ideologies" and the "fragile security scenario in the state". The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly has a six-year term while other assemblies and the Lok Sabha have a five-year term. Malik dissolved the Assembly shortly after People's Democratic Party leader Mehbooba Mufti staked claim to form a government with the support of the National Conference and the Congress. |
