S Tahir-ul Haq Early Times Report KUPWARA, Jan 6: A pall of gloom descended on Batpora as the five members of a family were laid to rest amid tears and sobs. Locals told early times that, the bodies of five members of a family who got killed on Jan 5 due to suffocation in a rented accommodation at Mansoor Colony, Bemina were airlifted today in a state chopper, Pawan Hans from Srinagar to Karnah thesil of Kupwara district at 3 pm. The deceased were identified as Khurshid Ahmad Sheikh (45) S/O Abdul Rashid, Reshma Jan W/O Abdul Rashid, Gulshan Jaan W/O Khurshid Ahmad, Faizan Ahmad Sheikh (8), Furqan Ahmad Sheikh (5), all residents of Batpora village in Kupwara district. "Grief and shock struck the entire Tanghdar Tehsil headquarter after the bodies of five family members including two minors reached here, said locals. Locals said that people from all walks of life condoled this natural tragedy that struck the poor family. They said that some couple of weeks back, the family had visited Srinagar to get Reshima Jan treated at JVC Hospital in Bemina Srinagar. Khurshid Ahmad Sheikh 45, retired army man had visited Srinagar along with a family but he was not aware that the whole family will return in coffins to their native village, said relative of the deceased Rafique Ahmad. Khurshid Ahmad is survived by his father, Abdul Rashid Sheikh, who is out of state with Tableegi Jammat, however he is on his way back, after he was informed about this tragedy, the deceased left behind one younger brother, Iqhlaq Ahmad Shiekh with his own family of 4 members, he is a labourer by profession. However sources from Teetwal informed ET that, the dead body of Taja Begium 75, wife of Abdul Qayoom Khawaja, Teetwal was also taken to her ancestral village today, she was struck at Sadhna top after she lost her life due to cold. Meanwhile five passengers were injured today after they were traveling in a Tata Sumo that plunges into a nallah at Tangibal area of Kalaroos Kupwara. All the injured were taken to nearby hospital where from one critically wounded has been referred to Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment, locals told early times over the phone. |
