Top cop misused his position, power to harass his business partner, then CM acted as mute spectator | Mehbooba gave free hand to police when she was in power | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 6: Former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and president of the Peoples Democratic Party Mehbooba Mufti after losing power has trained guns at the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the other security forces operating in the Valley. Recently she lashed out at the Station House Officer and his subordinates for allegedly harassing family members of a militant. She warned the Governor's administration of serious repercussions if the alleged harassment doesn't stop. Mehbooba during her tenure never left any opportunity to praise the policemen and the security forces. Even when the cases about few officials "misusing their power and position" were brought into her notice, she ignored it. "She maintained criminal silence over unnecessary harassment and atrocities committed by the men in uniform on the respectable citizens when she was sharing power with BJP," said a source. He alleged, "Mehbooba had given a free-hand to police to commit atrocities on the peace loving citizens when people used to approach her with such complaints she used to thrash these." A source said that during Mehbooba's regime a top police officer, who was dumped by the Governor's administration, misused his power and position to harass a businessman of the city. This businessman was his partner in the business. "The harassment started after both the partners entered into some feud over some business related issue," the source added. He said, "The top police officer directed the concerned police station to block the parking in front of the business premises of his partner. The helpless businessman had to hire valet parking at other place for to ensure that his business survives the onslaught." The source said that two honest police officers opposed the move of the then top cop and expressed resentment over unnecessary harassment of the said businessman. "The top cop used his power and authority and prevailed over honest officers with the help of a SHO and asked them to mind their own business," the source said, adding that the helpless businessman approached higher-ups but his plea remained unheard. "Higher-ups in the Mehbooba Mufti led government preferred to remain silent over atrocities committed by the then top cop on the honest and respectable businessman of the city." The source said that the then chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, who was also holding the Home portfolio, at that point of time had given free-hand to police officers to run the state according to their whims and wishes. "Many people like this businessman were humiliated, harassed and troubled during Mehbooba's regime but she never took cognizance of such issues," the source added. |
