Ring Road affected farmers warn Govt | Will camp inside our fields soon | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 14: The affected farmers of Ring Road projects Jammu and Srinagar on Monday warned the authorities that if their land would be snatched they would pitch tents inside their fields and not allow any construction work on the highway both in Srinagar and Jammu. The joint coordination committee of farmers today held a joint press conference in Jammu. While speaking at the press conference farmers warned that if Government would not pay them adequate compensation they won't allow construction of Ring Road. " From ;as more than 1 year we are coming on roads but it seems we are not a priority for the Government. We have been deceived all the successive Governments. During 2013 when the central Land acquisition act was passed NC-Congress Govt failed to adopt that in J&K. PDP-BJP Govt also failed to pass a new land acquisition act. Governors rule has also not addressed our issue. We will not allow the work on road projects and have now decided to pitch tents in the fields itself and now allow any construction work. " said OP Khajuria farmers leader of Ring Road Kisaan Sangharsh Samiti Jammu "In 21st century when all the obsolete laws have been repealed it is a shame on Jammu & Kashmir state to follow J&K Land Acquisition Act 1934 which is a 85 year old law promulgated by Maharaja Hari Singh. The Congress lead United Progressive Alliance (UPA-II) in the year 2013 enacted more progressive and democratic law called Right to Fair Compensation & Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act (RFCTLARR Act 2013) but that law was never extended to J&K. We have been urging authorities but nobody is listening to us " said G A Paul President Kashmir Ring Road Land Owners Welfare Committee Farmers allege that those farmers who have been allotted state land and custodian land are also thrown out in Jammu and the leaders of Jammu were mum over the issue. " Stamp duty rate in Jammu is as low as 78,000 / kanal and maximum Rs 5 lakhs / kanal which is injustice and for this rate one land cant be purchased even in a remote area of Kishtwar or Doda. MLAs from BJP , Congress , NC , PDP have not even addressed this issue except one MLA Chowdhry Sukhnandan who raised the issue once in assembly but was asked to keep mum by his own party members . My 20 mango trees are being axed for Rs 5 lakhs compensation while as market rate will fetch me 1 crore. This is injustice and we will be forced to commit suicide " said S C Dubey an affected farmer while talking to Early Times. Farmers also alleged that Private Negotiation option is not being explored by Government which is a provision under J&K Land Acquisition Act of 1934. " We have requested Chief Secretary to explore this option but haven't heard anything from DCs of Jammu , Budgam & Srinagar yet " said G A Paul President Land Owners Welfare Committee Kashmir province. |
