NC faces 'revolt' as old horses demand lion's share | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 14: National Conference is witnessing a tussle between the old horses of the party and the young leaders. Sources told Early Times that NC leaders are of the opinion that party would emerge as the single largest party in the Valley as the Peoples Democratic Party is grappling with number of issues which won't be resolved soon. "The old horses are of the opinion that Omar Abdullah and his aides failed to manage the party and messed up the mandate which NC had got in 2009," sources added. They said that Omar sidelined the trusted lieutenants of his father Dr Farooq Abdullah and gave undue space to the new entrants, who lacked experience, to handle the state. "The old horses have already conveyed to the NC president Farooq Abdullah to save the party from getting split," sources added. They said that the NC leaders have told senior Abdullah that if the new entrants are not reined in they would be left with no other choice other than contesting the forthcoming assembly elections as independent candidates. "A few NC leaders have told Farooq Abdullah that he should come out of the illusion that veterans would just fall in the line and would accept all the decisions of the top leadership," sources added. An insider revealed that Farooq Abdullah is aware about the crisis his party is facing but he is putting up a brave face just to keep his party together. "A few leaders within the National Conference are of the opinion that why should the leaders from only one family call the shots," he added. Sources said that PDP leaders raising a banner of revolt against Mehbooba Mufti and her family members has emboldened the NC leaders and they may also tread the same path if the party's top leadership ignores their suggestions. "The Third Front which is being formed by the PDP rebels and the Peoples Conference is also eyeing the NC leaders and they are in touch with them. Omar Abdullah is maintaining silence as he has been asked by his father (Farooq Abdullah) to sit on the fence till he succeeds in regrouping his loyalists," sources added. They said a few NC leaders believe that their party won't be able to form the government without the support of BJP if the saffron party wins the 2019 parliamentary elections. "After entering into an alliance with the PDP, BJP had to face many embarrassing situations and if it returns to power in 2019 it would try its best to place a government of its choice in J&K. National Conference led government obviously won't be a preferred choice for the BJP." |
