Panchayat Bari still waterless in digital India | | | ASHWANI SHARMA Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, Jan 14: Even as the nation got its freedom more than 71 years ago but there are villages like Dhrella and Knala under panchayat Bari of tehsil Ramnager in district Udhampur, which still lack proper water supply thanks largely to the apathetic attitude of the authorities concerned, who are doing nothing concrete in this regard. Locals of these villages told to Early Times that there is no water supply which has made the life of people here very miserable adding that the PHE department has failed to provide them water supply till dated. "We have no water to drink, to wash clothes and to perform other household chores. Our cattle too are suffering without water," said a housewife. Sanjay Singh, a village elder, said that the population of the area is about six thousand but they are deprived of a proper water supply adding that their girls and women have to trek around 2-3 kilometers daily on rocky terrain to get water to make their kitchens function smoothly. "Life here is not like that of Babus whom we repeatedly visit in PHE offices with our water related problems which they take very casually and adopt delay tactics," Singh maintained. Another local from this village said that authorities should check if this is not the violation of human rights and fundamental rights as water is basic requirement for life. The villagers have appealed to the Governor to immediately look into the matter and get the water supply to their villages through a water tank which was constructed twelve years ago. |
