Strange, Shah Faesal doesn't know separatists' point of view | Pak is a factor, right to self-determination a solution' | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 14: Strange may it sound but it is a fact that Shah Faesal, who only recently resigned from the Central Government's service to register what he called his protest against the alleged atrocities on Kashmiri Muslims, doesn't know what the separatists in Kashmir actually want and, at he same time, he says that he would not like to go to jail and would always want to remain with his family. "Pakistan is an important stakeholder. There have been talks between India and Pakistan on Kashmir and I hope that dimension is addressed. I have met all types of people in Kashmir. But as I was in service, it was not possible for me to meet separatists. I would like to meet all the separatists and glean their point of view. Nobody can deny the role of the separatists in Kashmir or their importance. That's a reality…our position on Kashmir will be that there is a sentiment in Kashmir and that sentiment needs to be addressed. We will never say it is just about jobs and development…To be in the Hurriyat, you need a lot of motivation and mental strength. You may have to go to jail, remain apart from your family. For people like me, who do not have that sort of mental strength, it is not possible to join the Hurriyat," Faesal the other day said while explaining his position, strength and weaknesses. That Shah Faesal didn't know the view point of separatists and that he could meet them to understand their point of view must surprise even his supporters, if there are any. He was born in Kashmir; he was in service since 2009; he served in Kashmir for most of the time; and still he failed to understand what the separatists in Kashmir wanted. Who will trust him? Who doesn't know what the separatists in Kashmir stand for? They stand for J&K's separation from India and imposition of the separatists' bill on Jammu and Ladakh, which house the state's half of the population. However, he was clear on two points. One was that right to self-determination was a solution. The other was that he, like other Kashmiri separatists and half-separatists, made it absolutely clear that Jammu and Ladakh were not a factor and that they had to accept the Kashmiri diktats. He was also very clear as far as Pakistan and Hurriyat as factors in J&K's political situation were concerned. Another issue on which he was very clear was the right to self-determination. "We need to speak about self-determination and have a dialogue about it. Self-determination is part of the Kashmir solution. If you are looking at all possible solutions, that is one very important possible solution people identify with," he said while putting his weight behind this right to self-determination formulation. When he talked about people, he didn't mean the people living in Pakistan-occupied-Jammu & Ladakh (read so-called Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, all parts of Jammu and Ladakh). He meant the people living in this J&K giving everyone to understand that the Hindus, the Buddhists, the Sikhs, the Jains and the Christians were also against India and for the right to self-determination. |
