Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Feb 1: Hours before the scheduled arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Jammu & Kashmir inauguration of one of the key projects has been dropped owing to the non-completion of the project.
Early Times has learnt from sources that the e-inauguration of Saffron Park has been deferred since the work on the park has not been completed as yet. The park was supposed to be inaugurated through e-mode by Prime Minister at Sher-I-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) here during his February 3 visit to the state.
The Saffron Park is located in the Dusoo village in the Pampore area in South Kashmir's Pulwama district. The park is coming up under the prestigious National Saffron Mission programme and so far approximately Rs. 50 crores have been spent on the project.
"It is a pity that even after so many years the Saffron Park has not been completed as yet. The park was supposed to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister, but that is not to be. As such the people especially those associated with Saffron would have to wait for some more time vis-à-vis the inauguration of Saffron Park," said sources.
Sources said that despite repeated reminders the National Horticulture Board (NHB) and the engineering department failed to pull up socks in ensuring that work is completed on time at least this time around on the Saffron Park. The lackadaisical attitude from NHB and the different wings of engineering department meant that Saffron Park is not going to be inaugurated by Prime Minister.
"In the past whenever any team would come to take stock of the progress of work on the Saffron Park they would point out towards the flaws. The NHB and the higher ups of engineering department used to be informed about the same so that they could improve the performance and that the park is inaugurated," said sources.
Sources said that neither the NHB nor the different wings of engineering department took objections raised from time to time with regard to construction of park seriously. They said that the same became the impediment in inaugurating the Saffron Park and that too at the hands of Prime Minister.
"Few days back Divisional Commissioner Kashmir; Baseer Khan convened a meeting with respect to progress of work on the Saffron Park. The meeting was told while as some components are under construction there are some others that are going through the process of renovation," said sources.
Sources said that as it came to the fore that work on the Saffron Park is yet to be completed it was decided that the inauguration of the same would be dropped during the visit of Prime Minister. They said that even the internet facility was missing at the park and it was put in place only on Thursday (January 31, 2019).
Sources said that Director Agriculture Kashmir who happens to be Mission Director of the project had many times told the authorities that there is nothing lacking from the department and that the other agencies should pull up the socks in this regard. The department has put in place all the necessary things that it was supposed to do with respect to Saffron Park.
