PDP patron goes 'missing' from the scene | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 27: Once again, the PDP is facing tough times with its new patron Muzzafar Beigh going into oblivion and not attending the important party events. What caught attention of several people including the party leaders was the recent press conference of PDP President Mehbooba Mufti in which she made an important announcement asking all political groups including the National Conference to make a united forum for the protection of 370. However, when Mehbooba was making such an important announcement, Beigh was mysteriously missing from the scene. There are also reports that the PDP founder is these days preferring to remain away from the party activities and important meetings related to its overall functioning. Meanwhile, there are enough bitter experiences of the past that could tell the PDP leaders how there is a thin thread connecting Beigh with the party at present. In the past, it was Beigh who was first to raise the banner of revolt within the party and openly expressed his resentment. In December 2017, this trusted lieutenant of Mufti Sayeed had said that he was sidelined even when PDP and BJP stitched a common ground in 2015. After around three months of deliberations, PDP formed alliance with the BJP and signed agenda of alliance that both the parties termed as a 'guiding principle' of running a coalition government in the state. "I was completely sidelined. On December 28, 2014, Mufti sahib in the presence of Mehbooba Ji had told me to get a document prepared for my preliminary negotiations with BJP. On January 1st, 2015,I was told by Mehbooba Ji that I should stay back and some other person had been chosen to speak to BJP. I don't know why they did so, but yes, I was sidelined, therefore I don't have any knowledge about the terms and conditions of the engagement with BJP," Beigh said in an interview. Castigating the party's approach over burying its self rule document Beigh had said that the document would now look obsolete. PDP's Lok Sabha member from north Kashmir who also served as the deputy chief minister during the PDP- Congress coalition had said that soon after the demise of the former chief minister and Mehbooba Mufti's father- Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti witnessed the toughest battle of her life all alone. "I understood that Mehbooba Mufti was deeply upset due to the loss of Mufti Saheb, as he was not her father only but a good friend too. But what pains me, that none of the ministers took the responsibility to advice her about the governance during that period, and that is where we lost the plot. She was left alone to fight not only the emotional battle within her but also the circumstances that emerged due to turmoil soon after she took the reins," said Muzzzafar Beigh last year on December 23, adding that he may quit the party as he has been taken for granted in the party. |
