Chaos in Jammu city as Raj Bhawan admin fails to tackle 'war-like emergency' | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 27: Amid a "war-like" situation in Jammu city, which is barely few miles away from the international border where hostilities from Pakistan are on a rise, the administrant miserably failed to tackle the chaos Wednesday. While the schools were kept open here, a sudden declaration of the closure as announced by many of educational institutions only added to the chaos when the news had just broken that Pakistan warplanes had tried to attack adjoining Rajouri district. Schoolchildren and their parents were left to fend for themselves by the administration which "didn't bother" to get things under control or send a word of clarification. "I was on duty when I got a call that school of kids had suddenly shut I need to take them home… But as I was stuck at office I had to ask my friend to get them home," complained a senior official on the condition of anonymity. Many of the parents were seen running in panic towards schools to collect their wards. "We thought that war has begun and what will we do now," complained the parents who accused the Raj Bhawan and its administration of failing to tackle the situation. Some senior officials said it was the responsibility of the Divisional Commissioner Jammu and the concerned District Commissioners to have looked into matter and kept arrangements in place. "It was the responsibility of the administration to have informed people about the situation through radio and TV but the babus were sitting in their AC offices unaware of the ground situation," the officials said on the condition of anonymity. "Even the Chief Secretary was supposed to be on toes and ensure that his administration is working as needed. After all you cannot expect New Delhi to spoon-feed any state government on everything," the officials added. "See had the closure of schools been decided by the government, things would have been much better," officials said. Officials said the government must also to review the stock of essentials in Jammu region as war clouds were looming large. "Administration needs to come out of slumber," said they said. Despite repeated attempts the concerned couldn't be contacted for comments. Meanwhile the people have appealed Governor SP Malik to personally look into the matter. |
