Jammu, Mar 7: In wake of the unfortunate Pulwama incident and subsequent developments, particularly in Jammu region, the members of Jammu Civil Society for Peace and Brotherhood addressed a press conference today at Press Club Jammu.
One of the member of the Jammu Civil Society for Peace and Brotherhood, said "while the Pulwama carnage of 14th February, 2019 left each one of us deeply anguished and hurt but the developments, in the aftermath also inspired us to raise a collective voice of anger and strong condemnation. He added that the unfortunate Pulwama incident triggered a nationwide, rather a worldwide, chain of response at all levels.
Another member said, "The Jammu Civil Society for Peace and Brotherhood has come into being to prevent the collateral damages to the society that incidents of terrorism inflict. We must not lose sight of the fact that the real intent of such incidents to pose challenge to social, political and economic environments in its aftermath". Adding that he said those acting irrationally in reaction to such incidents eventually plays in the hands of anti-national and anti-social elements.
Other member said that it is imperative upon responsible members of the society to not only watch the situation but also intervene to ensure that peace, trust and social brotherhood is not breached at any cost.
He added that while as, the bigger challenges facing the state are being dealt with at various levels and with multi-pronged approached including political, economic and security measures at national and the state level, but it is very important for the civil society to play its essential role at social level. Our state is a unique microcosm of regional and cultural identities among which Jammu region holds a status which offers pride to its residents.
One of the member said that Jammu region, a certain reflection of our national pride of unity in diversity, is uniquely diverse in every aspect. In terms of challenging political environment of our state, Jammu region may have been diverse in terms of its electoral choices, but the region has always represented homogenous political ideology.
