Ban on extraction of sand, gravel from rivers, drains angers people | | | JAMMU, Mar 12: The ban on extraction of sand and gravel from river beds and drains has evoked severe reaction from the people. Sources said the people who are building their houses and other structures are facing a lot of problems. "They need sand and gravel for the construction works," they said. Sources said that the authorities of district Samba had given six months to the contractors for getting environmental clearance from various agencies. However, the contractors who got the clearance were allowed to continue work from March 2018 to February 2019. On February 28, the government scrapped the open auction order of 2016. Fresh auction, sources said, is likely to be held through e-auction. However, till it happens, extraction has been banned, they added. Aggrieved people have sought a solution. |
