Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 12: Government Degree College Kalakote is likely to miss another deadline set by the Jammu and Kashmir Housing Board in May, 2019. The board has now set another deadline of March 2020 for completion of college building.
As per reliable sources informed Early Times that the Department of Higher Education sanctioned construction of academic and administrative blocks worth Rs 5.48 lakhs to Jammu and Kashmir Housing Board and set the deadline of May, 2019 but owing to inordinate delay on part of executing agency, the agency concerned has succeeded only in laying plinth of both the block so far.
"The callousness on part of department concerned can be gauged from the fact that the rural college has faced step motherly treatment in terms of manpower and building from the day the college came into existence. It is running from six rooms hired from Government Higher Secondary School Kalakote", said sources adding three rooms are being used for class work and the remaining house the office of principal, administrative office and library and staff room.
Sources said that the higher education department has sanctioned Cafeteria and toilet block to Public Works Department (PWD). The construction works is almost complete and in process handover but the actual building is still in oblivion.
"Presently, the college has offered nine subjects including Education, Economic, EVS, English, Urdu, Hindi, Arabic, Pol Science and Sociology but only three permanent faculty deputed there and rest of them were hired form academic arrangement", said an Assistant Professor while wishing anonymity.
Sources further said that non-teaching posts like Assistant Librarian, Senior Assistant, Chokidar and Peon are lying vacant to this day.
