GoI fails to fulfill demand of tunnel at Sadhna top

KUPWARA, Mar 12: Three persons of Karnah tehsil were killed due to snow blizzard at Khooni Nallah on Monday late evening when they were returning home. People staged a protest against the government for not fulfilling their long pending demand of construction of tunnel at Sadhna top.
"Just after a year, another casualty has been witnessed today, after three labourers of Karnah thesil were killed due to snow blizzard at Khooni nallah", said Noor Alam of Karnah.
Alam told Early Times that, in December they had gone to Punjab for labour work, and after three months these persons were returning to their home town of Karnah, adding they were five persons, among which three died due to serve cold, while as two people returned back to the army camp at Sadhna top and informed them about the unfortunate incident.
Soon after the said news, army and police from Sadhna top visited the spot and retrieved the dead bodies of three persons, adding there was 15 feet of snow at Khooni Nallah, Locals said.
They identified the deceased as Tahir Younis Khawaja (22) S/O Mohd Younis, Abdul Khaliq Sheikh (40) S/O Ghulam Qadir, both residents of Hajinard Karnah and Fareed Ahmad (25) S/O Laldin of ShamsPora, Karnah.
The police informed the relatives of the deceased about the said incident, after which the bodies of three persons were taken on stretches to the native village for the last rites, locals informed.
Locals said that, it is very unfortunate that the Government of India (GoI) and State Govt had failed to fulfill the promises they had made with the people of this border area to construct a tunnel of 7 kms at Sadhna top, adding last year almost 11 persons died after they came under snow avalanche in the same area, locals said.
They said that, all weather tunnel would have eased the vehicular movement round the clock, even though the survey team visited the area and announced that tenders will be called very soon, but till date no such promise or announcement was made in practical.
Meanwhile a delegation from Karnah today held a strong protest at Press Enclave Srinagar, where they were demanding that a tunnel be constructed at Sadhna top.
