| DB questions State about measures being taken to preserve glaciers | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 12: Division Bench of State High Court Comprising Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Tashi Rabstan in Suo-Moto Public Interest Litigation, questioned the State about the measures being taken to preserve and protect the glaciers including the Khardungla glacier in the region.
When the PIL Came-up for hearing, Division Bench observed that Advocate General DC Raina appearing for the official respondents and prayed for time to file a report. DB directed that the same shall be positively filed within four weeks from today.
DB further directed respondents to place before the Court the planning exercise which has been undertaken to ensure that the construction in the Leh and Ladakh areas to such extent and of such nature that they did not cause any unwarranted rain on the ecology especially in the context of pollution, water, garbage and sewage.
DB further directed that State shall also deal with the issue relating to the tremendous pressure on the fragile ecology of the region especially with the advent of the tourist season. |
