statehood to Jammu Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 26: Former Minister Chowdhary Lal Singh, who has filed his nomination papers on Jammu and Udhampur Parliamentary seats, raised the demand of statehood for Jammu and Union Territory for Ladakh to corner the BJP. After filing his nomination papers on Udhampur Parliamentary seat at Kathua this afternoon, Lal Singh vociferously raised the demand of granting statehood to Jammu region. Credible sources said that Lal Singh has raised this demand after filing nomination papers as a calculated move to raise pitch to push BJP's to the task. After 2014, BJP has maintained silence over its previous stand of granting state hood to Jammu or regional autonomy for Jammu region. Ram Madhav, BJP's general secretary who himself claimed to the expert on J&K, has reportedly asked the state BJP leadership not to raise the demand of either regional autonomy or state hood. Lal Singh not only demanded state hood for Jammu, he also mooted the idea of trifurcation of J&K with Union Territory status for Kashmir Valley and Ladakh region. "Why Jammu suffered due to misdeeds of disgruntled elements of Kashmir Valley", he asked the people and asserted that fight for statehood would be intensified after Lok Sabha elections. |
