| Inter-state narco smuggler held with 300 kg poppy straw | | |
RAMBAN, April 5: Police today claimed to have arrested a drug peddler in a special drive launched by Ramban police against the drug abuse.
Police spokesman said that on the directions of SSP Ramban Anita Sharma, a police party led by SHO Batote Inspector Nazir Ahmed under the supervision of DySP Hqrts Ramban Asgar Malik under close supervision of Adll SP-Sanjay Parihar conducted surprise checking of vehicles at Nashri on NHW.
"During checking and frisking one truck bearing registration number HR37D-5567 was on way its way from Kashmir got signalled to stop for checking," said spokesman adding that on thorough search of the vehicle recovered 12 gunny bags filled with poppy straw like substances weighing about 300 Kgs from the vehicle.
Police identified the suspected drug smuggler as Nazir Ahmed of Ward No 2 Village Boliwal, Teh Haroli, Distt Una, Himachal Pradesh. He has been taken into custody.
A case under FIR NO 31/19 under section 8/15 of NDPS Act had been registered against the accused person at Police Station Batote and further investigation was going on. |
