Anantnag Women college officials swindle money, Higher Education Deptt buries scam

Anantnag, Apr 5: A year on, the Higher Education Department has failed to recover money allegedly swindled by senior officials of Anantnag Women's college. According to reports, an internal enquiry committee had detected a scam in Anantnag Women's college in 2017. According to the report, incumbent Principal and female senior laboratory Assistant was found guilty of having swindled an amount Rs 1, 09,860. This amount was collected from the students on account of fee for provisional and discharge certificates.
After the internal enquiry, the Higher Education Department had also constituted a three member committee to probe the matter. The committee was also mandated to other irregularities that has surfaced including IGNOU honorarium and electrification cases.
Then Principal Amar Singh College Prof. (Dr) Mohd Aslam Baba, then Principal GDC Kulgam Bashir Ahmad Rather and Accountant Amar Singh College Mr Abdul Rashid were the members of the probe committee. The committee in its report recommended that an amount of Rs 69,860.00 be recovered from the female senior laboratory Assistant and an amount of 40, 00.00 be recovered from the principal.
According to reports, some amount was recovered from the female laboratory Assistant as first installment, however later she approached court for relief.
Vigilance Organization of Kashmir too had taken cognizance of scams that had surfaced in Anantnag Women's college but no action as such has been taken against the scammers.
The principal was removed for his alleged involvements into certificate case were again posted in the same college as he was enjoying the patronage of PDP top leaders.
VOK now ACB had sought detailed information from the college authorities that include number of local fund employees who are on rolls in Anantnag Women's college. Reportedly a number of people have been recruited through backdoor as local fund employees and huge money supposed to be spent on students' welfare is being disbursed among them. Anti-Corruption Bureau had also sought full details about the electrification works carried in the college but it isn't clear whether any action was taken or not.
