Will SKUAST-J get first ever local Vice-Chancellor? | | | Arun Singh
Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 5: Ever since the tenure of Vice Chancellor Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) came to an end, discussions on the new VC have started. Will the university get its first ever local VC? The question haunts the people of Jammu. Sources informed that it has been a shocking fact that that SKUAST Jammu has never got a local or internal academician on this coveted post even since the establishment of the varsity. "Despite having well qualified candidates in the State, the preference was given to the outsiders due to which, the varsity could not be benefited to that extent which was expected from the local Vice Chancellor," they said. They further said that the SKUAST Jammu has witnessed more than seven Vice Chancellors so far and the fact remained that all were from other states. "The previous Governments have always appointed their blue eyed on this coveted post deliberately ignored the locals," they informed. "The outgoing VC SKUAST Jammu PK Sharma who remained on the post from 2014-2019 was from Himachal Pradesh and was appointed during the tenure of Governor NN Vohra. Others who were on VC post were Nagender Sharma, Dr B Mishra, Dr DK Arora all three were from Uttar Pradesh. Even the post also remained under occupation of Commissioner Secretaries Agriculture Production but till date no local or internal candidate has been appointed on the coveted post," they said. Although SKUAST Kashmir has always got local and internal candidate as its Vice Chancellor similarly Kashmir University, Jammu University have also got local VCs but SKUAST Jammu is the only where no local VC has been appointed till date, sources said. Presently Dr KS Risam, Director Extension has been given temporary charge of VC SKUAST Jammu until permanent arrangement. |
