Lok Sabha polls for KPs meaningless, irrelevant: Panun Kashmir
4/10/2019 10:46:40 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 10: Panun Kashmir led by its President Vijay Bhat called an emergency meeting of all the executives members here in Jammu to discuss the various issues faced by Kashmiri Pandits, in view of the ensuing Lok Sabha elections in India in general and in Kashmir Valley in Particular.
Vijay Bhat said that the pain and agony of Kashmiri Pandits expressed and shared by Prime Minister is a matter of satisfaction. Prime Minister had reiterated the tragic genocide of Kashmiri Pandits at the hands of Jihadists in valley but such statements will not enable them to return and rehabilitate in valley, unless translated into action.
Panun Kashmir expressed surprise and shock over the conspicuous absence of the issues pertaining to KPs like passing of Temple and Shrine bill and return & rehabilitation, in the recent manifestos released by various political parties including mainstream regional as well as national parties. Though BJP has mentioned in their Manifesto about the return of KPs to their Homeland as a passing reference but the roadmap is missing. In the absence of any roadmap and the time line, it seems that such references in manifesto are just eyewash.
Convenor Ravinder Jalali while addressing the meeting said that disenfranchise the KPs in Lok Sabha election is a biggest human and constitutional rights violation. It is sad that the KPs who have been living in other parts of country outside valley had been disenfranchised and are now being forced to vote for the valley candidates and when their basic demands are not fulfilled. Besides, maximum number of Kashmiri Pandis does not find their names in the electoral rolls on account of their exodus from valley (TARAKI-SKOONAT).
This issue is not also addressed by any of the political parties, whether it is regional or national. Voting has become cumbersome for KPs due to the filling of various forms like Form-M, etc and nobody seems to be interested in simplifying the process of voting.
