Has crackdown on PDP begun? | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 10: Former MLA of Peoples Democratic Party Aijaz Ahmed Mir, whose guard, decamped with seven weapons from his official residence in Srinagar last year and reportedly joined militant ranks, seems to be in a big mess as National Investigating Agency has summoned him to its Jammu office. The special police officer Adil Bashir Sheikh, had run away with weapons from Mir's residence on 28 September, 2018. Sheikh hailed from Zainpora area of Shopian district and was engaged as SPO in 2017. A source said, "the then MLA Wachi, Ajaz Ahmed Mir, had gone out of way to get him adjusted in the police force and then managed to get him posted at his quarter in Srinagar." It may be recalled that soon after the weapon loot incident the president of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mehbooba Mufti, had claimed that her MLA is being forced to change his loyalties and is being threatened. She had tried to blame New Delhi of intimidating her party MLAs and tried her best to politicize the issue. An insider revealed that the NIA, which is probing the weapon loot incident, summoning the former MLA of the Peoples Democratic Party has created ripples within the party camp. "Since the day PDP has been ousted from the power its leaders are openly toeing the line of the separatists and are leaving no stone unturned to appease them and the people sitting across the Line of Control," said an analyst. He said that NIA sending summons to one of its former MLA's could be the beginning of the crackdown of the party, which has been openly supporting the elements, who have been preaching sedition and separatism. "The PDP in order to gain its lost ground has crossed the line and seems least bothered about safeguarding the national interests. It's high time for the government to probe the militant links of the mainstream politicians," the analyst added. A Kashmir watcher said that the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti soon after being dumped by the BJP last year returned to militant families and expressed solidarity with them. "She even threatened that if her party is split more Yasin Maliks and Salahuddins will be born. Her party leaders have taken a cue from her and have been following her footsteps," he added. A politician said that Kashmir centric politicians should realize that they can't have the "cake and eat it too." "One thing is clear that anyone who is having links with proscribed parties will be dealt with sternly and politicians are no exceptions," he added. |
