Excise Deptt tightens noose on toll evasion, illicit liquor | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 18: Since Model Code of Conduct is in vogue, Excise Department has been intercepting vehicles on National Highway at night/early morning to check any toll evasion and illegal transportation of alcohol. As per sources, in a total of 111 nakkas, 7 vehicles have been detained so far and their assessment of duty evasion is under process. Further a total of 6 people have been arrested for production of 8000 kg of Lahan and possession of 30 litres of illicit liquor which stands destroyed during this period. Also, random raids at liquor vends and bars are being regularly undertaken by concerned excise officials so as to ensure dry days as per the order of Excise Commissioner. Awareness programmes and Nukkad Natak on drug de-addiction and illicit liquor are being conducted across state so as to make people especially younger generation aware about its ill effects and to motivate people to come forward for various de addiction programmes at various designated medical centres. |
