Jammu, Baramullah Lok Sabha polls today | CRPF takes control of polling stations | | Ishtiyaq Ahmad Early Times Report Srinagar, Apr 10: The central reserve police force (CRPF) has taken the charge of polling stations for ensuing Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Baramullah constituencies, going to polls on Thursday. One of the top officials of the CRPF told early times that the force has taken charge and is coordinating with State Police to manage and maintain the law-and-order He siad that CRPF jawans were also given training before being sent to sensitive areas in Kashmir division. " These jawans are equipped with Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (B.D.D.S)" he said. CRPF is chief force coordinator for elections. Companies are deployed as per the sensitivity of the area. Hypersensitive areas generally require one-to-two companies. All the deployments are done by the District electoral officer in the areas to ensure smooth conduct of elections.?The force is also responsible for guarding of polling booths, escorting polling parties safely to remote areas and back to their designated areas, relocation of EVMs safely and maintain law-and-order In both the constituencies, Jammu, Baramullah over 24 lakh voters in will exercise their right to vote in the first phase of polls tomorrow. Voting is scheduled tomorrow in both the Lok Sabha constituencies from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Election authorities here said that they are ready for the polling day. "All necessary preparations and security arrangements are in place for the smooth conduct of the elections," they said. As many as 13,12,148 voters will decide the fate of 9 candidates in the fray in Baramullah constituency where 1,749 polling stations have been set up. Er. Rashid as independent candidate, Engineer of the Peoples Conference (PC), Abdul Qayoom Wani the NC, Raja Aijaz Ali are in fray. While constituency will witness a contest among Muhammad Akbar Lone from NC. Haji Farooq Mir from BJP and Congress fielded M.M. War. In Jammu constituency as many as 10,70,014 voters would be deciding the fate of 24 candidates. The main contestants include Kishore Sharma of the BJP, Raman Bhalla of the Congress, Prof Bhim Singh of the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP), Choudhary Lal Singh of Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan, Badrinath of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Javid Ahmad of All India Forward Block. National Conference (NC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have not fielded any candidates in this constituency. |
