Is Modi yet 'Coattail' in the BJP?
4/28/2019 11:36:17 PM
Jamwal Mahadeep Singh
Before to be a judgmental on the issue, we have to traverse the journey from 2014 till date, the Modi period, that has number of chapters on number of subjects for argument extending from 15 lakh commitment to present election sops. When we flash back to 2014, 16th lok sabha elections, we have to admit that the coming of the BJP into power was not the urge of voters to push the party on musical chairs. Here we have to visit the various factors responsible for down powering the UPA and empowering of the BJP. It's going to take multiple 'whys' to revise the reasons of loss of Congress in 2014 elections. The anti-incumbency was not the only reason for it but other factors we can arrive at are: Corruption: the scams kept rolling out of its overstuffed closet one after another. Various scams that surfaced during UPA were realized by people as stealing away of tax payers' contribution known as 'Government money' by those responsible for its use to the development of the country and bettering the life of common man. No serious-minded individual can support public loot. Inflation: the ideal inflation rate in an economy seem somewhere manageable within limits between 2 and 6%, however in UPA, the inflation rate went out of the hand of the government. Although the inflammation factors may be both external as well as internal, but people do take their frustration out when they find it difficult to manage food in their plate even after making their best effort. Leadership crisis also resonated in UPA. When almost everything was going against Congress in the center, suddenly the declaration of Narendra Modi, the third timer consecutive CM of Gujarat, as BJP's prime ministerial candidate for 16th lok sabha, sealed the fate of Congress. To look for a viable alternate, it became the sudden surge because of Modi, who was taken as having the potential to replace UPA in 2014 and as such, he proved to be a 'Coattail' for BJP. Merriam-Webster dictionary describe the word 'Coattail' as the influence or pulling power of a popular movement or person (such as a political candidate) and Modi proved to be rear flap of a BJP's coat. The coattail quality of the Modi also commingled with his high catchy election promises and commitments of many hopes such as: 15 lakh, two crore annual jobs, 'one for ten', sab ka sathh sab ka vikas and 56 inch chest, the most influencing. The promises commingled with commitments and a self propagated 'Gujrat Model' was flashed across the country with managed electronic/print media that ultimately landed BJP on power seat. Here we can safely conclude that during 2014 elections, many criminals (laterally accommodated as ministers also), turn-coats and unfamiliar faces entered Parliament not on their own capabilities but just because of the 'Coattail' person in the party i.e. Mr Modi. Every Tom, Dick and Harry became honorable Parliamentarian. So from the preceding lines, there is no second option except to conclude that really it was the Modi, a 'Coattail' in the BJP during 2014 electionering.
Now when the country is heading towards 17th Lok Sabha, we have to analyze what transpired betwixt 2014-2019 to be judgmental on the issue "Are Modi yet 'Coattail' in the BJP?" A narrative tried to be created that India is shining on World map only because of Modi, carries falseness into it also. On many fronts the international index if increased in certain fields has decreased in more and many. But it will never be allowed to be in public domain as these ratings do not suit to Modi. The Modi Government is under aggression of destroying key Indian Institutions from the Supreme Court to the RBI, from CBI to Election Commission. Three Supreme Court judges (never-before) took step of holding a press conference to voice their protest against arbitrary allocation of cases to benches by the then Chief Justice of India. A posting available on search engine (an article by Subodh Varma in October 2018) has expressed while this may appear to be an internal fight, the real and unsaid issue was that the CJI was allegedly distributing cases to suit the Modi government. The warning note issued by RBI's Viral Acharya comes in the background of a series of friction points between the RBI and the government. These include: how to deal with the 'prompt corrective action' (PCA) framework for banks with high stressed assets, how to deal with the bad loans or NPAs in general. These may seem to be arcane policy issues-and may have their respective merits and demerits-but the fact that the government is determined to interfere in the functioning of the RBI to suit its own goals, and in fact try to weaken it by setting up parallel and more pliant regulators for some matters is a dangerous game (refer article by Subodh Varma available on search engines). The Central Vigilance Commission, another statutory body, has been headed by a Modi appointee since 2015, allegedly with his involvement in various criminal/corruption-related cases. Further it is revealed that in many other official bodies ranging from the UGC to top officers in research and academic bodies including university appointees like vice chancellors, the Modi government has played fast and loose, freely appointing its own supporters, and thereby tilting the balance in favor of their ideological positions (refer article by Subodh Varma available on search engines). We observed a new 'vulgar lexicon' and its roots we trace right from Modi itself when he referred Sonia Gandhi a 'Jersey Cow' and Rahul Gandhi as her 'hybrid' bachhada (a language used by ruffians). He had been throwing barbs at Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi over the last so many years. A brigade of BJP leaders is the recruited army of BJP to throw barbs and if the similar words from other parties, mostly as retaliation to BJP's vulgarity, we can add up a dictionary with hundreds of pages. So we can easily conclude that level of politics on both sides of the coin have degraded during Modi regime. The biased propagation of the present dispensation has created hoax of Modi but its exposes we have seen in all the bye-elections and state elections that went to election after Modi came into power. We cannot make our opinion on the subject matter of the writing without mentioning the trends of the election campaign by Modi and BJP's campaign brigade. Drifting away from projecting the achievements, election promises of 2014, Modi thrust his energy only in making the election a "Presidential form of Democracy" rather than "Representative form of Democracy" and he and his coterie is psychologically torturing the voters to press the election symbol of BJP, without looking for the face and qualities of the candidate as Modi is to be re-installed as PM and never appealed to the voters to look for a better candidate of their area. The brave and valour deeds of our army are politicized for political gain. He is 24X7 busy in throwing barbs on Rahul and Congress party and to emotionally gain sympathy projecting him as: 'Chaiwaley ka Beta', 'Pradhan Sevak', 'Chowkidar', 'Majdoor number one' and projecting him as from lower caste and poor family etc. He has tried his best to create a narrative that whole opposition parties especially Congress is calling names to whole community of Chaiwala, Chowkidars, Majdoor community etc. In a single line BJP has created a line of division between communities and religion for vote bank. The whole attention of the nation has been tried to be diverted towards a created form of nationalism and national security. To divert the attentions from the failures in implementing promised agenda, Modi has shifted the focus on different issues and is in a bid to encash the deeds of the army that is branded by his fraternity as 'Modi sena'. We always observe confidence with arrogance. Arrogance full of obsession, feeling himself always right, and believing his accomplishments or abilities make him better than other people but people often believe arrogance is excessive confidence, but it's really a lack of confidence. The arrogance of 2014 success has been taken in a way as is to think that what you did yesterday will be sufficient for tomorrow.
Going by the 24X7 propaganda by the biased TV channels, that just promoting Modi only, they have somehow succeeded in projecting Modi yet as Coattail in the BJP and as a demi-god for the common man. How for still he is in the position as Coattail, only 23rd May 2019 will raise the curtain.
