Knowledge of Urdu language
Shiv Kumar Padha Basohli6/1/2019 10:43:39 PM
Language is a medium through which one can convey one's feelings to others by speaking or in writing. Language is our friend, parent and companion when we are away from our native land. The world becomes accessible to those who are either polyglots or multilingual. English is called lingua franca which enables us interact at global level easily. There are many examples of some saints and Indian leaders like Swamy Ram Bhadracharya, Sh PV Narsinbha Rao, Dr. Abul kalam Azad and PT. Jawahar Lal Nehru who are known as polyglots of India. The languages are like gems studded in our personality. India is a multi racial and multi lingual country where every state of the union has its own official language. Jammu and Kashmir state comprises of three regions speaking different mother tongues and having different cultures. Jammu, Ladakh and Kashmir divisions ar as strangers to each other as Indians and Chinese, but Urdu language has been made the official language of Jammu and Kashmir where knowledge of urdu language opens the doors of employment for the youth. Being the official language of the state it is used in all the departments in general but in police, revenue, forest, state archives, Radio stations, Television, journalism, film Industry and judiciary departments in particular. These departments together with other allied are totally out of bound for the young educated youth who do not want to learn Urdu or those who have not been taught Urdu language during the school times. Leaving Kashmir division of the state and the Muslim dominated towns and villages in Jammu and Ladakh regions of the state there is no interest, motivation or liking visible either among the students or the teachers in Jammu division. Consequently the doors of employment in the dozens of the departments are closed for the educated youth in Jammu region of the state.
Being the official languge of Jammu and Kashmir the careerist youth of Jammu region considered role of Urdu language as useless in their career. Neither The teachers nor the parents take the trouble for educating their children regarding the importance of learning Urdu language especially in Jammu and Kashmir where Urdu language is considered as the backbone and vehicle of the prestigious departments like revenue, judiciary, forest police, archives, archeological department of India and dozens more. Hatred and discrimination towards Urdu language has made all these departments out of bond for the educated youth of Jammu region.
Whether it is revenue, judiciary, police or any other Urdu dominant department, even the most educated find themselves at sea. Nobody knows about the content and meaning of the files with the result many clients feel duped in the hands of the professional employees. In Jammu division all these departments are manned by the employees from Kashmir, urdu speaking areas of Jammu region which have, many times resulted into futile litigation, due to changing or forging the statements or applying irrelevant acts of RPC or IPC. Same is the case in the forest and revenue departments where fistful of corrupt employees mint money with the jugglery of Urdu words. It is very sad that the youth from Jammu region who are selected in the state administration services learn urdu from their subordinates during the early days of therie appointment with the result they remain dependent upon them and become puppets in their hands.
There are new avenues for the urdu knowing youth not only within the state or country but in the entire urdu speaking world. There is a big scope for the Urdu knowing people in print as well as in the electronic media lacs of the people with the Knowledge of Urdu are employed in the Urdu tv channels in the capacity of Urdu reporter, Editor, announcer, column writer etc. The knowledge of Urdu language shapes the career of the youth and opens floodgates for employment for them.
Urdu language is also called Lashkari Zuban very polite and appropriate for conversation. Urdu is among the 20 th most spoken language in the world. It helps to make one more polite and courteous. The language has got the capacity to boost the career if one wants to work in Northern India, Great Britain, Canada, UAE, South Africa and many other places. A knowledge of this language will indeed help to find jobs and expand our social network.
The urdu language is an indo- Aryan language spoken by over 100 million people which it makes another important language to study. The language is dominant in India and Pakistan and is spoken by large communities in the UK, UAE Canada. About 75% of urdu words and90% of verbs have their roots from Prakrit and Sanskrit.Gulam Hamdani Mushafi used the term Urdu for the first time in 1780 It used to be called Hindi from the 13 th to 18 th century. Urdu was also called by the name Dehlavi and Hindvi. Urdu used to be written in Persian script till 1837 when Hindustani replaced Persian as the official language together with English.
It is said 'While in Rome Do as the Romans do'. It must always be kept in mind by both the children and their parents that their career is always linked with what is necessary in the state they live in. Neglecting Urdu language during schooling is like axing their own feet. Without knowledge of Urdu we become aliens in our own state and ponder for jobs outside. It becomes the duty of the state government and the parents to encourage their children for Urdu by preparing congenial environment, supply Urdu knowing teachers in every school, otherwise these fistful people sitting on the important tables in police revenue, forest and judiciary department will never release us from their clutches and exploit Jamuits on the ethnical bases.
