Kishtwar-Sinthan road thrown open for traffic after 6 months | Construction of Singhpora-Viloo tunnel demanded | | Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report
Jammu, June 1: After six months , the Kishtwar-Sinthan highway was thrown open for vehicular traffic today after clearing snow at the Sinthan Top situated at an altitude of 12500 feet above sea level. The Kishtwar-Sinthan highway connects Kishtwar District with Kashmir via Anantnag District of South Kashmir. It also act as an alternative road to Kashmir valley as the current Jammu-Srinagar National Highway mostly remains close due to continuous landslide in Ramban District. With the opening of Sinthan top pass, all the vital road networks in the state of Jammu and Kashmir that blocks due to snowfall were open for traffic. Speaking to Early Times, Vice President JKPCC & former MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori said that road has been thrown open after battling hectic weather conditions and hails the efforts of the people engaged in snow clearance work. Saroori congratulated the people of sub-division Chatroo for opening of this road which not only provides connectivity between Kishtwar and Srinagar, but also raises the economy of the poor people living on both sides. He also appealed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to visit the Sinthan which would boost the tourism in the area. “Increase in tourist traffic will resuscitate the economy of poor people of the area as it is the only source of income for them and also the beauty of Sinthanwill be highlighted in a positive way,” Saroori said. He said that an amount of more than 15 Crore has been sanctioned for blacktopping of the remaining Sinthan road from Watsar onwards added that he is hopeful that the blacktopping would be started by the end of the month with the increase in temperature. He called upon the government to take effective measure towards building tourism infrastructure in the area so that vast tourism potential of the area could be tapped. Speaking to “Early Times” the locals stressed for construction of Singpora-Viloo tunnel without any further delay so that this road will became an all weather road beside will also reduce the Distance between Kishtwar-Srinagar by around 65 KM. He said that successive governments though assured for the construction of Singpora-Viloo tunnel added that they are hopeful that union Government headed by Narindra Modi will take effective steps towards construction of the Singpora-Viloo tunnel. They said that the route will act as an alternative route to Amar Nath Yatra beside will boost the tourism potential in this backward area of the state. The route is also the only road link to Marwah and Warwan areas having population of more than 35000 as both these areas of the District also remain cut off from the state during winters. The people also called upon the authorities to keep check on overloading of the vehicles on this route as same could be fatal in case of any eventuality beside also called for fixing of passenger fare so that people traveling on this road could not feel cheated. |
