Six year old boy succumbs at AIIMS, toll rises to five | Gas cylinder blast snatches a half family in Uri | | S Tahir-ul Haq Early Times Report
BARAMULLA, June 8: A pall of gloom descended over a family that had not come out of the tragic shock after a six year old boy who along with his mother and five other siblings were injured in a gas cylinder blast on May 27 last month succumbed to his injuries at AIIMS Delhi. Just a week ahead of Eid celebrations, a family had met with an unfortunate accident when a gas cylinder got exploded in Laghama village of Uri area in this north Kashmir district. A local resident of Laghma told early times that seven members of a family including a mother were injured when a Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinder exploded inside the residential house of Mohammad Shafi Chalkoo son of Abdul Dullah Chalkoo of Laghama area of Uri on May 27. However soon after there was an explosion, locals rushed to the spot for rescue work, and all the injured were rushed to the nearby hospital for emergency treatment. The six family members including mother and her five daughters and a son were critically injured, while as one member had got minor injuries in foot and all of them were shifted to Baramulla hospital where from they were referred to SKIMS for advanced treatment. The ill fated members of a family were identified as Parveena Akther (35), Saima Bano (18), Sabeena Bano (16), Shaista Bano (14), Nazia Bano (13), Ulfat Bano (10) and Ubaid Chalkoo (5). Few days back all the injured were shifted to Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS) where from two were moved to All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) for advanced treatment. Today early morning, six years old Ubaid Ahmad S/O Mohammad Shafi Chalkoo succumbed to his injures at AIIMS raising the death toll to five. His mother Parveena Akther (35) and three sisters Saima Bano (18) Sabeena Bano (16) and Shaishta Bano (14) had also succumbed to injuries last week. Governor Satya Pal Malik had expressed grief over the tragic deaths in gas cylinder blast at Uri, and provides ex-gratia relief of Rs. 8 lakh to the family, free treatment for injured in AIIMS Governor has prayed for peace to the departed souls and strength to the bereaved family in its hour of grief. He has wished speedy recovery to the injured persons undergoing treatment. While as on the directions of Governor, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr G N Itoo has given an ex-gratia relief of Rs. 8 lakh to the head of the family and Rs. 50,000 in cash for the medical treatment of those injured. |
