Ousted PDP leaders lobbying for new alliance | | | Early Times Report srinagar, June 8: A leader who was ousted from the Peoples Democratic Party on charges of conspiring to dethrone the party president Mehbooba Mufti is now lobbing for a new alliance ahead of the Assembly polls. While the Election Commission of India recently said the polls were likely to be held after the Amarnath Yatra, the ousted PDP in league with his former colleague who is also out of the party, have been lobbying for the new alliance. The other leader, who was removed from the ministry during the previous PDP-BJP government, before he decided to quit, has been in constant touch with his counterpart and both are working for pre-poll alliance. Sources said they are in constant touch with two politicians including a former IAS officer and former independent MLA, both from north Kashmir. It was reliably learnt that a lobby of businessmen in Kashmir has been helping them in exploring possibilities of alliance ahead of the polls. Sources said the duo, who was previously associated with the PDP, are willing to offer all "necessary support" to those parties or candidates who are willing to work with them in future. Sources said the two leaders, however, are still not sure on if they can float a separate party any sooner. "Their plan for now is to create an alliance that will possibly support a regional party," said a source privy to the developments. He said the group of two former PDP leaders enjoys "full support" of a group of Kashmiri businessmen and their contacts in the regional parties. Sources said while group is in touch with around a dozen politicians, most of those who were approached have a question that as to who will be the possible candidate for the chair of Chief Minister. "As of now many of them want to be the Chief Minister in case the alliance is established. Once the name is finalized of their leader in the alliance, the same will be announced through media," said a source. Despite repeated attempts the concerned couldn't be contacted for comments. |
