Poonch, June 8: The strict implementation of traffic norms seems to be a distant dream in border district of Poonch where overloading of passenger vehicles is going on unchecked. The locals, while talking to Early Times, said, "Violation of traffic rules and regulations is going on unabated in the district, with the authorities failing miserably." "As the number of vehicles is lesser than the demand, transporters indulge in overloading, which poses a serious threat on the accident prone roads," said locals Locals accusing Traffic police said, "Traffic police come into action only after an accident occurred in any area that too for few days after that they just disappear or resort to their illegal routine of collecting monthly entry from transporters." Locals said, overloading under the nose of police and traffic police is at its peak in Poonch but no action by them raises many question marks on their functioning. Locals have appealed to Governor and Director General of Police to take notice of the matter in order to keep a check on the violations and to ensure that travelling becomes less risky. |
