ITBP DG visits Lipulekh Pass to review arrangement for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra | | | Agencies New Delhi, Jun 14: The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Director General SS Deswal on Friday visited the Lipulekh Pass to review the arrangements for pilgrims of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, an official release said here. Mr Deswal, along with senior officials of the Force, trekked 20 KM up from Gunji helipad to reach Lipulekh pass, located at the height of 17,000 feet in Uttarakhand. He reviewed the arrangements and the condition of the foot track leading to the traditional route of the Kailash Mansarovar yatra through this Pass. The DG also appealed to the people and pilgrims to maintain the ecosystem of mountain by keeping it pollution-free. 'The Mansarovar Yatra has begun and I request all the pilgrims not to pollute the environment by dumping the waste and other bi-products during this holy Yatra. They should carry their wastes material to the base station where a large dustbins have been are kept for this purpose', Mr Deswal said. He and his team also collected waste materials threwn there and brought back to the base camp for its disposal. The first batch of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra pilgrims on Thursday reached ITBP Camp in Mirthi through the Lipulekh route. The 58-member batch was flagged off on June 11 from Delhi by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. The Ministry of External Affairs organises the annual Yatra via two different routes - Lipulekh Pass (Uttarakhand) and Nathu La Pass (Sikkim). Thousands of devotees participate in the Yatra through a treacherous route that crosses territorial boundaries of India, Nepal and China. According to the schedule this year, 18 batches will trek across the Lipulekh pass in Uttarakhand while 10 other batches will go via the Nathula route to Sikkim. Each batch comprises 50 people. |
