Delhi explores options as PC fails to cross the line | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 14: Peoples Conference led by Sajad Gani Lone not being able to win even a single parliamentary seat in Kashmir is making Government of India explore other options in the Valley. Sources told Early Times that the Peoples Conference leadership had assured the people sitting in New Delhi that winning elections from Baramulla Lok Sabha seat would be a cake walk. "In fact the PC was provided all the support but its candidate, the former IGP Raja Aijaz Ali, couldn't cross the line. After the parliamentary elections have ended the people in the national capital are exploring options as they have realized that Ansaris (rebel PDP leaders, Imran Ansari and his uncle Abid Ansari) joining Sajad have not made a big difference," sources added. They said that New Delhi is working hard to provide people with an alternative to National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party. "The PC led by Sajad Lone had created a notion that it can emerge as an alternative provided the Centre supports it, but Lone and the company have not been able to cross north Kashmir. Presence of the Peoples Conference in Srinagar and Anantnag is negligible and party can take a longtime to reach these areas," said a politician. He said that the BJP leadership in the Centre has already written off the Peoples Democratic Party and if the delimitation plan is shelved then the BJP would be left with no other option other than joining hands with the National Conference to form the government. "Many BJP leaders in New Delhi are opposing the idea of going with NC. They want new people to come forward and replace the traditional politicians. If the BJP wants to rule Jammu and Kashmir then the delimitation is the only solution. It could prove to be a masterstroke and would allow the Government of India to have its way," the politician added. "If the GoI sticks to the status-quo after few months we will have a Kashmiri centric politician occupying the Chief Minister's office and the BJP leaders in J&K will be left with no other choice other than to act as second fiddles," he said. An analyst said, "It seems that there is a consensus among the nationalist people across the country that the mainstream politicians in Kashmir with separatist leanings need to be kept at bay. For the past thirty years these politicians have been enjoying all the privileges provided by the GoI but when it comes to defending national interests they change their sides." |
