Residents narrate their woes to Munish | Dilapidated road, choked drains, no dustbins: Welcome to Digiana Camp | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 14: Dilapidated roads, choked drains at Model Town and Digiana camp are enough to puncture the tall claims of the government to turn Jammu into a Smart City. Editor Early Times, Munish Gupta who would be contesting upcoming Assembly Election from the Gandhi Nagar constituency as an Independent candidate on Friday conducted a extensive tour of Digiana Camp, Model Town of Ward No. 58 and its nearby areas. During his mass contact programme, the residents of these areas informed Munish about the problems being faced by them since 2015 when PDP-BJP took the reins of the state. They alleged that the former MLA (Kavinder Gupta) after getting elected never visited their locality to take stock of the problems, being faced by them. Paramjeet Singh Sahni told Munish that the road which connects Model Town of Digana with Gangyal near Punjab Nation Bank is in dilapidated condition. "Our pleas to get this road repaired have fallen flat on deaf ears," he said. Singh further said that the road is 24 feet wide but some influential persons have encroached it by constructing galleries and stairs of their house. He said that the Safaikaramchari visits their area once in three days to collect garbage. This leads to people dumping garbage outside their home due to non-availability of dustbin installed in our areas by JMC. Mohan Kour residing in Digiana Camp said that the streetlight whichwas installed just at entrance of her house has been defunct for the past one year and the drain which passes through the area is also choked and the foul smell emanating nearby nallahhas made our lives hell. "Missing link between Model Town and Roop Nagar was constructed by former minister Labour, Employment and Sports, Sardar Harbans Singh in May, 2002. Since then the department concerned never maintained it. The road is in dilapidated condition since then", said Hakumat Singh. Harpreet Singh said that in the Model Town, the garbage collecting vehicle comes frequently "but it doesn't enter our locality (Digiana Camp). The road from the Government Girls Middle School to Digiana Gurudawara is in shambles." Bhagwan Singh and his wife Balwant Kour both are septuagenarian but still not covered under old age pension. Like them, Ranjeet Kour and Manjeet Singh (62), a differently abled but they are also making round of Social Welfare office Ampallha to get registered under pension scheme, lunched by Union government but the babus sit in the office concerned turn blind eye toward their miseries. |
